Sheepdog Trials in Crossmolina
Shepherds with their dogs, turned up to compete in Crossmolina, at the now annual Sheepdog trials at RiverView.
2010 was the first year for this competition and now in its second year, it drew top class competitors from around Ireland.
A number of the successful Irish team, freshly back from the Worlds which were held in the Lowther Estates in Cumbria, England, brought their top class sheep dogs to compete.
Sheepdogs are unbelievably fast & they were the real Stars of the day, though their owners may have something to say about that .
It was my first time, shooting these graceful athletic animals & I had anticipated speed but not of their calibre.
What certainly stood out was their predatory nature, & the doggy love for what they were doing was so evident.
The skill of the shepherds varied greatly with a number of novice shepherds competing for their first time.
Finally, when I go to events, I always come home keen to check out my images.
However from time to time, you take an image during the day, & you have the feel that you’ve taken the best image of the day & you could simply pack up & go home….
Of course you don’t – you stay on to see out the tournament.. This image below was my favourite of the day. Hope you may like it too
