A couple of weeks ago, journeyed with a friend to witness the South Mayo Harriers out & about with their friends from the North Galway's.
It was a glorious day, sun shining & great company, as I managed to get a lift around the route with horseman who knew the story inside-out. The country side was extraordinary, phrase comes to mind, up hill, down hill, over country with lots & lots of lovely natural jumps. Not to mention amazing scenery, with outstanding views of sweeping hills on the edge of the ocean, Clew Bay.
One location, stood out, a hill top with strips of green mounds, overgrown walls, I think. Certainly would love to get some archaeologist/s up that hillside, their verdict would most likely be - old farm walls, an old settlement, in days past, folk had a love for building on hillsides, etc for protection & security & of course the View!
So here are a few pics, from the day. One picture, had a 20s/30s feel to it, so you will see it below in sepia colouring. This image has an old fashioned feel to it & thought sepia was the way to go. Black & white would also been an option, but felt this was more striking and I simply love this look.
Has to be one of my favourite pics
